Carlo Alberto Mellado, a 30-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was tragically shot and killed on November 6, 2018. The incident occurred in the Harbor Gateway area, specifically in the 800 block of West 167th Street. According to the Los Angeles County coroner’s records, Mellado was near the back of the apartment complex where he lived when a car drove by and a person inside the vehicle opened fire.
The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m., and Mellado was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:47 p.m. The vehicle continued traveling west in the alley toward South Vermont Avenue. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and it was noted that Mellado was not affiliated with any gang activities.
Mellado was a father of two young boys, aged 11 and 6, and was described by his family and friends as a devoted father and partner. His long-time girlfriend, Desiree Alejo, expressed her grief and called for justice, describing Mellado as a great father, boyfriend, and son. The family has been deeply affected by his loss, with his mother, Alicia Mellado, particularly concerned about the future of his children who will grow up without their father.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) South Bureau Homicide detectives have been investigating the case but have had little to go on. They believe the shooter followed Mellado to his home and shot him as he was trying to enter the apartment complex. Despite the presence of other people in the alley that night, no witnesses have come forward with information about the shooter or the vehicle involved. The detectives have urged anyone with information to contact them, emphasizing the need for community assistance to solve the case.
As of now, there have been no arrests or identified suspects in connection with Mellado’s murder. The investigation remains open, and the LAPD continues to seek leads that could help bring the perpetrator to justice. The family and community continue to hope for answers and closure in the wake of this senseless act of violence.
