Dynasty Alexander, an 18-year-old resident of Tulare, California, was tragically found dead on March 3, 2019. Her body was discovered near an orchard on the 19700 block of Hosfield Drive, south of Elk Bayou Park. The initial investigation revealed that she had sustained visible trauma to her upper torso, and the case was immediately treated as a homicide.
Law enforcement officials, including the Tulare County Sheriff's Office Violent Crimes Detectives, were called to the scene to take over the investigation. They sought information from the public, particularly anyone who had been in the area of Elk Bayou Park on the day of the incident.
The investigation quickly identified Dale Watson, a 55-year-old man from Porterville, as the primary suspect. On the morning of March 3, 2019, Watson had picked up Dynasty Alexander outside a Tulare apartment complex under the pretense of going to the store. Security footage from the apartment complex captured Watson's truck departing with Alexander. Later that day, at approximately 5:23 PM, law enforcement received a call about a body found on a dirt driveway at the aforementioned location. Alexander had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her upper torso.
Witnesses reported seeing Watson's truck in the area where Alexander's body was found, which further implicated him in the crime. Deputies arrested Watson two days after the murder. The case proceeded to trial, and on April 2, 2021, a jury convicted Watson of second-degree murder with the special allegation of intentional discharge of a firearm causing death. Additionally, Watson was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as he had a prior felony conviction for vandalism in 2018.
On August 31, 2021, Watson was sentenced to 43 years to life in prison for the murder of Dynasty Alexander. The prosecution, led by Supervising Deputy District Attorney Cindy Underwood, presented a compelling case that resulted in Watson's conviction.
