On the evening of July 1, 2019, Ruben Lopez, a 25-year-old resident of Long Beach, California, was fatally shot in the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. when Lopez, accompanied by a 19-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, got into a verbal altercation with a group of male suspects.
