Gaylen Lee, a 70-year-old respected elder of the Mono Indian tribe and author, was tragically killed on July 6, 2019, in North Fork, California. Lee was shot at his home on Cascadel Drive, a location he shared with his family. The incident occurred following a series of escalating tensions between Lee and Robert Eugene Moye Jr., a 46-year-old man who had been living nearby.
