In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 13, 2011, a tragedy unfolded at the Latin Club in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, forever altering the lives of the Alvarez family. Rene Alvarez, a 39-year-old Hispanic man, was still inside the establishment shortly after closing time when the festive atmosphere was shattered by the intrusion of an armed man demanding money from the remaining patrons.
