Keyla Alison Salazar, a 13-year-old girl from Gilroy, California, tragically lost her life on July 28, 2019, during the mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival. Keyla was enjoying the festival with her family when the gunman, Santino William Legan, opened fire on the crowd. The shooting resulted in the deaths of Keyla, 6-year-old Stephen Romero, and 25-year-old Trevor Irby, along with injuries to more than a dozen others.
