Misty Smith Walton, a 29-year-old pregnant mother of two, was tragically shot and killed on November 9, 2019, outside her home in East Oakland, California. Walton, who was six months pregnant with a baby girl, had stepped outside with her husband after hearing their car alarm go off. As they investigated the disturbance, an unknown assailant opened fire, hitting both Walton and her husband.
Walton succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while her husband survived and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The unborn child also did not survive the attack.
The community was left in shock and mourning following Walton's death. She was well-known and loved in her community, serving as the PTA president at Carl Munck Elementary School, where her younger son was a student. Friends and family described her as a warm, friendly, and supportive person who was deeply devoted to her family. A memorial with flowers and candles was set up outside her home, and a GoFundMe page was created to support her surviving children.
Despite extensive efforts by the police, including canvassing the neighborhood for video surveillance and other evidence, no arrests have been made in connection with Walton's murder. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities have not identified any suspects, and the case has left the community grappling with the senseless act of violence that claimed the lives of Walton and her unborn child.
