In the New Orleans neighborhood of St. Roch, on the evening of April 6, 2022, the life of 29-year-old Shaquille Michael Cooper was tragically cut short. An African American male, Cooper was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Penn Foster High School. That night, at approximately 8:36 p.m., he was shot multiple times in the 1800 block of Music Street.
Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and quickly transported him to a nearby hospital.
Despite their efforts, Cooper succumbed to his injuries within half an hour of the shooting. The New Orleans Police Department classified the incident as a homicide and began an investigation into the fatal shooting.
In the wake of his death, Shaquille Cooper was remembered by his family, including his mother and two brothers. His funeral service was held on April 16, 2022, at the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in New Orleans. The investigation into his murder remains ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case is still considered an open homicide, with a reward being offered for information that could lead to an arrest.
