Jonaye Lahkel Bridges, a 24-year-old mother from Antioch, California, tragically lost her life on July 27, 2020. The incident occurred when she was fatally shot while sitting in a car outside a 7-Eleven convenience store on Buchanan Road. The shooter, identified as Ramello Darryl Randle, had placed a tracking device on Bridges' car, allowing him to follow her movements.
On the day of the incident, Randle tracked Bridges to the convenience store and opened fire on her vehicle, resulting in her death and injuring her male companion.
Randle, who was the father of one of Bridges' children, was arrested shortly after the shooting. The investigation revealed that Randle meticulously planned the attack, using the tracking device to monitor Bridges' whereabouts. During the trial, it was disclosed that Randle had a cache of weapons, including several assault rifles, at his Oakland home. The prosecution presented evidence, including a text message between Randle and his co-defendant, Christopher Slaughter, discussing the tracking device and a palm print found on the gun used in the murder.
The legal proceedings were tumultuous, with Randle representing himself and frequently disrupting the court with profanities and outbursts. This behavior led to a mistrial in 2022. However, the case was retried, and despite further disruptions, Randle was eventually convicted of murder, conspiracy, possession of an assault weapon, and shooting at a motor vehicle. The jury found him guilty on all counts, and he is scheduled to be sentenced on April 19, 2024.
Christopher Slaughter, who was implicated in the crime, took a plea deal and was sentenced to 15 years for his role in the murder.
