Joseph Ash, an 18-year-old from Sacramento, CA, tragically lost his life on November 1, 2020. The incident occurred during a party hosted by Ash and his friend, Micah Nero, at Ash's apartment. The party, which was advertised on Snapchat and open to the public, attracted numerous attendees, including Andrew Granderson's friend. This friend was robbed of his jewelry by unknown individuals at the party. Concerned for his safety, the friend left the party and informed Granderson about the robbery.
In response, Granderson decided to return to the party to confront the situation.
Upon arriving at the apartment, Granderson knocked on the door, and both Ash and Nero answered. Without hesitation, Granderson opened fire, fatally shooting both teenagers. The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office later confirmed that Granderson was identified as the shooter through an extensive investigation conducted by the Sacramento Sheriff's Office homicide detectives. Granderson was arrested more than six months later in Las Vegas.
The legal proceedings that followed were significant. On October 18, 2023, a jury convicted Andrew Granderson of two counts of first-degree murder, along with gun use allegations and the special circumstance of committing multiple murders. This conviction led to Granderson being sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The sentencing took place on January 19, 2024, before the Honorable James Arguelles. The case highlighted the tragic consequences of violence and the impact it has on the victims' families and the community.
