Brian Greene, a 34-year-old resident of Palmdale, was tragically shot and killed on January 19, 2021, in the parking lot of a liquor store in Hawthorne, California. Greene had just visited the store and was getting into his car when an unknown assailant approached and opened fire. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. near the corner of Imperial Highway and Eucalyptus Avenue. Surveillance footage from the liquor store captured the suspect fleeing the scene in a white, four-door sedan.
Despite the immediate response from law enforcement, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the suspect has not been apprehended.
Greene, who worked in Inglewood and frequently visited the liquor store, was well-known to the store owners. On the day of the incident, another vehicle had backed into the parking stall next to Greene's car. As Greene sat in his vehicle, an occupant of the other car shot him, causing him to collapse just outside his vehicle. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has been assisting the Hawthorne Police Department in the investigation, but no arrests have been made so far.
The case has drawn significant attention from the community and local authorities, who continue to seek information that could lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect. Greene's family and friends have been left devastated by the loss, and the community has rallied to support them during this difficult time. Despite the ongoing investigation, the lack of a clear motive and the suspect's escape have made it challenging for law enforcement to make progress in the case.
