Bernard C.J. Gillis, a 20-year-old man from Hawthorne, California, tragically lost his life on January 1, 2013. The incident occurred early on New Year's Day when a gunman opened fire at a house party located at the corner of 135th Street and Cerise Avenue. The shooting happened shortly after midnight, and Gillis was among the victims. When police stopped a vehicle speeding away from the scene, they discovered Gillis with a gunshot wound.
