23 year old dies in his parents' arms On a cloudy Tuesday evening in New Orleans, January 29, 2013, Steven Augustin-Jones, a 23-year-old African-American male, was standing outside a residence in the 7100 block of Bunker Hill Road. At approximately 6 p.m., in an act of sudden violence, an unknown individual opened fire, striking both Augustin-Jones and another 23-year-old man multiple times.
The brutal attack left Augustin-Jones with fatal injuries, and he collapsed on the porch where he died in the arms of his parents.
The second victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Steven Augustin-Jones, known to his loved ones as 'Scooter,' was a husband and the father of two sons, Steven III and Sean. He was survived by his wife, Kiera Jones, his parents, Steven Jones Sr. and Barbara Augustin-Jones, and his siblings.
In the wake of the shooting, the New Orleans Police Department began an investigation. However, a motive for the shooting has not been publicly identified. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Steven Augustin-Jones, and no suspects have been named. The case officially remains open as authorities continue to hope for new information to emerge that could lead to a resolution for his family.
