On May 11, 2021, Stockton Police Officer Jimmy Inn, aged 30, was tragically killed while responding to a domestic violence call in Stockton, California. Officer Inn, a six-year veteran of the Stockton Police Department, was approaching the front door of a residence on La Cresta Way when he was suddenly shot by a man inside the house. The suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Lance Lowe, opened fire on Officer Inn, fatally wounding him. A second officer arriving at the scene exchanged gunfire with Lowe, who then retreated into the house. Moments later, Lowe emerged holding his 8-year-old son and began to strangle the child. A courageous bystander tackled Lowe, allowing the second officer to shoot and kill him. Officer Inn was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Lance Lowe, the suspect in this tragic incident, had a criminal history that included a five-year prison sentence for Grand Theft Auto with the use of a firearm. He had been released on parole supervision in April 2020, just over a year before the fatal shooting of Officer Inn. Lowe's actions on that day not only resulted in the death of Officer Inn but also endangered the life of his own child, who was fortunately saved by the quick actions of the bystander and the responding officers.

In the aftermath of Officer Inn's death, the Stockton community and law enforcement agencies across the state mourned the loss of a dedicated officer. Officer Inn left behind his wife, Tela, who also works for the Stockton Police Department, their 7-month-old son, and two stepchildren. The community showed an outpouring of support for Officer Inn's family, with numerous fundraisers and memorials held in his honor. The incident also highlighted the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and the importance of community support in times of tragedy.

The investigation into the shooting confirmed that Lowe acted alone and that his actions were a result of the domestic violence situation that had escalated to a deadly confrontation. There were no further arrests or suspects involved in the case, as Lowe was killed at the scene. The Stockton Police Department and the community continue to remember Officer Jimmy Inn for his bravery and dedication to serving and protecting the citizens of Stockton.
