Natasha Denise Barlow, a 43-year-old resident of Lake Elsinore, California, was tragically found dead on July 5, 2021. Her body was discovered by deputies in the Lakeland Village community after her sister requested a welfare check due to a lack of contact. Natasha was the mother of seven children, ranging in age from 2 to 15 years old. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department quickly identified her death as a homicide and launched an investigation.
The primary suspect in Natasha's murder was her boyfriend, Celestine John Stoot Jr., who was 44 years old at the time. Stoot, a convicted felon with a history of gun assault, domestic violence, and witness intimidation, allegedly shot Natasha during a domestic dispute. The altercation occurred on the morning of July 4, 2021, at their residence on Hayes Avenue. Following the shooting, Stoot fled the scene with their 2-year-old son, Celestine Stoot III, prompting a statewide Amber Alert.
Authorities apprehended Stoot and the child in Las Vegas, Nevada, the day after Natasha's body was discovered. The child was found unharmed and was returned to his family in Southern California. Stoot was arrested without incident and was later extradited to Riverside County to face charges. He was charged with first-degree murder, child cruelty, being a convicted felon in possession of a loaded firearm, and sentence-enhancing allegations related to the use of a firearm and infliction of great bodily injury.
The case proceeded to trial, with pretrial motions and jury selection taking place in April 2023. During the trial, it was revealed that the couple had attended a Fourth of July party where they argued, leading to the fatal confrontation later that night. Stoot allegedly struck Natasha over the head with a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol before shooting her through the neck. The bullet passed through a wall into the children's room, but fortunately, none of the children were injured.
In April 2023, a jury convicted Celestine John Stoot Jr. of the murder of Natasha Denise Barlow. He was found guilty of all charges, including first-degree murder and child cruelty. The case remains a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help and support for those in abusive relationships.
