Alfred Lee Williams, aged 61, tragically lost his life on August 29, 2021, in Bakersfield, California. The incident occurred in the 300 block of South Owens Street, where Williams was fatally shot around 9 a.m. on that Sunday morning. Another individual was also injured in the same shooting and received treatment at a local hospital. The Bakersfield Police Department responded to the scene following a ShotSpotter activation, which is a system designed to detect gunshots and alert authorities.
Upon arrival, officers found Williams and the other victim with gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Williams' death led to significant developments. Jayden Longmire, an 18-year-old at the time, along with two juveniles aged 15 and 17, were arrested in connection with the shooting. The arrests followed a vehicle chase that ended in a crash, after which the suspects attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by the police. Three firearms were recovered from the scene. Longmire faced multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, gang participation, conspiracy, and firearm violations. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges but later, in a plea deal, he pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter and other felonies. As a result, Longmire was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
