Franklin Gallon, a 34-year-old resident of Richmond, California, tragically lost his life on September 11, 2021. The incident occurred in the 4800 block of Hartnett Avenue, where police responded to a ShotSpotter activation at Booker T. Anderson Park on Carlson Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers found Gallon lying in the street. Despite the efforts of firefighters and medics who worked on him at the scene, Gallon was pronounced dead there.
The investigation into Gallon's death revealed
that the shooting may have stemmed from an argument between neighbors. Richmond police were "knee-deep" in their investigation, and while they did not publicly identify a suspect at the time, they believed they knew who the individual was and were actively working to locate him. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a green Honda Accord, but no license plate number was released.
This incident was one of two fatal shootings in Richmond on the same day, with the other victim being Imani Murphy, aged 44. Both killings were part of a series of violent events that had plagued the city, marking the 14th and 15th homicides investigated by Richmond police that year. The police arrested a suspect in Murphy's death, who was believed to have been involved in a prolonged dispute with the victim. However, no such arrest was immediately made in Gallon's case.
The community was left in shock and mourning, as friends and family gathered to remember Gallon. Services were held at Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries' Civic Center Chapel in Richmond, where loved ones paid their respects and shared memories of his life.
