On the evening of October 17, 2021, 30-year-old Latino man Oscar Ernesto Ayala was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of South Los Angeles. The attack occurred just before 8 p.m. in front of 532 West 82nd Street, where Ayala was standing outside with a 13-year-old boy.
