On December 25, 2021, a tragic incident occurred in Reedley, California, resulting in the death of 58-year-old Magdalena Alvarez. The event unfolded during a family Christmas gift exchange at a home on Goodfellow Avenue. Around 1:45 PM, Fresno County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered two women with fatal gunshot wounds: Magdalena Alvarez and 39-year-old Meisa Rashid, who was the girlfriend of Alvarez's father.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Austin Alvarez, Magdalena's grandson, had fled the scene in a GMC pickup truck. Law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol and local police departments, launched a search for him. He was apprehended later that day near Orange Cove, approximately 10 miles from the crime scene.
Investigations revealed that Austin Alvarez had arrived at the family gathering and, during the visit, opened fire, striking his grandmother and his father's girlfriend.
