Emari Cook, a 26-year-old resident of Vallejo, California, tragically lost his life on July 14, 2022, in Richmond, California. The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. near the intersection of S. 49th Street and Cutting Boulevard. According to reports, Cook was walking from Little Caesars Pizza in El Cerrito and heading down Cutting Boulevard when a vehicle began following him. An altercation ensued between Cook and the occupants of the vehicle, leading to one of the individuals exiting the car with an assault rifle and fatally shooting Cook. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office confirmed Cook's identity, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into Cook's murder was extensive and involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Surveillance footage from commercial video cameras provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which was crucial in identifying the perpetrator. The Richmond Police Department, with assistance from San Pablo PD detectives, conducted a thorough search using the Highway 4 License Plate Reader system. This led to the identification of the vehicle and its registered owner, Bobby Dee Dozier.

On October 19, 2022, a Richmond police SWAT team executed a search warrant at a residence in Martinez, California, where they arrested 37-year-old Bobby Dee Dozier. During the search, officers recovered two firearms, including a short-barreled AR-15 that was later confirmed by the Contra Costa Crime Lab to have been used in the murder of Emari Cook. Additionally, casings matching the AR-15 were found at the crime scene. Dozier, who had a history of violent offenses, including three previous arrests for murder and a 2010 manslaughter conviction, was on parole at the time of Cook's murder.

Following his arrest, Dozier was charged with one count of murder and multiple firearm violations. The case against him is ongoing, with the Richmond Police Department continuing to gather evidence and seek information from the public. Anyone with information related to the crime is encouraged to contact Homicide Detective Brian Hoffman or use the Richmond anonymous tip line. The arrest and subsequent charges against Dozier have brought some measure of justice for Emari Cook's family, though the community continues to mourn the loss of a young life cut short by senseless violence.
