Latauriisha O'Brien, known by his stage name Half Ounce, was a 32-year-old rapper from Los Angeles who tragically lost his life on October 3, 2022. On that fateful night, O'Brien was walking near his Koreatown apartment while on a video call with his pregnant wife. As he parked his car on New Hampshire Avenue, an SUV pulled up behind him. Unbeknownst to O'Brien and his friend, the SUV made a U-turn, parked, and turned off its lights.
A passenger from the SUV then ambushed O'Brien, ensuring he saw the assailant's face before being fatally shot multiple times at point-blank range.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to numerous calls of shots fired and found O'Brien lying in front of an apartment building. He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. The suspect, described as a Black male wearing dark clothing, fled the scene in the SUV. O'Brien's wife, who was on the phone with him during the shooting, rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshots.
The investigation into O'Brien's murder revealed chilling details through police documents and surveillance footage. The initial theory suggested that the motive behind the killing was linked to a robbery and an online feud. This led to the arrest and charging of two suspects, Anthony King, 37, and Dennis Risinger, 38.
