In the late hours of a summer night in Niagara Falls, New York, a dedicated 46-year-old male police officer named Michael McCormick was nearing the end of his shift. On the evening of July 22, 1908, while on patrol with his partner, a report came in about a suspicious man armed with a Colt. 44 revolver near a local brothel. McCormick’s partner was the first to arrive on the scene.
After finishing a meal, McCormick headed towards Falls Street to join his partner.

He was a ten-year veteran of the Niagara Falls Police Department. His sudden and violent death left behind his wife, son, mother, a sister, and four brothers, and was a profound loss to the community he served.
An extensive investigation into the shooting death of Patrolman Michael McCormick was launched. However, the identity of the gunman remained a mystery. The suspect was never identified or apprehended, and no arrests were ever made in connection with the murder. The case grew cold, leaving a lingering sense of injustice for the officer who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
