Joseph Scorney, a 28-year-old auto thief from Brooklyn, NY, was murdered on September 28, 1978. His death was a result of a contract killing orchestrated by Richard DiNome, who wanted a Porsche that Scorney had purchased. DiNome convinced Vito Arena, a fellow auto thief, to carry out the murder by suggesting that Scorney was planning to betray Arena and have him expelled from their auto theft ring.
