In the early hours of a Sunday in June 2015, the life of 40-year-old Timothy Thompson, a Black male, was cut short by gunfire in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans. Known in his community as a mentor who worked to steer young people away from violence, Thompson was shot multiple times. Despite the prompt response of authorities, his injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
