On a tragic Saturday morning in Queens, New York, 65-year-old Carolann Matyka was fatally shot in a violent domestic dispute. The incident, which occurred on April 12, 2014, also left her cherished Yorkshire terrier, Jack, wounded. The assailant was identified as her own father, 86-year-old Jack Calvello.
In a shocking turn of events, Calvello himself contacted authorities, dialing 911 shortly after 11:15 a.m. to confess to the shooting of his daughter and her dog.
When police officers arrived at the scene of the crime, they were confronted by an armed and dangerous Calvello. He brandished a shotgun, aiming it at the responding officers.
Faced with an imminent threat to their lives, the police officers were forced to take decisive action. They fired their weapons, fatally wounding Calvello at the scene. Carolann Matyka was pronounced dead from the gunshot wounds inflicted by her father.
