In the quiet neighborhood of Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, a shocking act of violence shattered the morning calm on October 15, 2014. Leonard Phillips, a 69-year-old man, was fatally shot inside his home at 379 Rugby Road in what police described as a home invasion. The horrifying event began when three men forced their way into the residence. Inside, they encountered Leonard Phillips' 71-year-old sister, whom they tied up while demanding money. It was during this terrifying ordeal that Phillips discovered the intruders and attempted to intervene to help his sister. In a senseless act of violence, one of the assailants shot him in the head on the third floor of the house. Emergency services rushed him to Kings County Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
