On a Monday afternoon in February 2015, Shemrod Isaac, a 33-year-old male, was fatally shot in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in front of the Lillian Wald Houses on Avenue D. Isaac, an aspiring rapper known by the stage name Sham Da God, had just dropped off his daughter with her mother shortly before the shooting. He was a father to a six-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy.
Isaac was walking through the Lillian Wald Houses when he was shot four times in the chest following a dispute. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The day after the shooting, the New York Police Department identified 21-year-old Shaquille Fuller as a suspect in Isaac's murder. Fuller was a resident of the same block where the shooting took place.
Shaquille Fuller was apprehended a few days after the shooting in Irvington, New Jersey. Initially, he was charged in connection with a separate shooting that had occurred in December 2014. It wasn't until September 2016 that Fuller, then 22, was officially charged with the murder of Shemrod Isaac, along with criminal possession of a weapon.
In April 2017, a jury found Shaquille Fuller guilty of murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. The conviction encompassed both the fatal shooting of Shemrod Isaac and the earlier shooting of a 19-year-old man. In June 2017, Fuller, then 24, was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison for his crimes.
