In the early hours of a summer morning in Hempstead, New York, a burst of gunfire shattered the predawn quiet, leaving a man clinging to life and a community searching for answers. The victim was 34-year-old Andre Bell, who was discovered inside a vehicle at the intersection of Kennedy and Harold avenues around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015. He had sustained gunshot wounds to his head.
