Brandon T. Sherwin, a 29-year-old male, died on January 8, 2016, in Watervliet, New York. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on September 2, 1986, he was a 2004 graduate of Shaker High School and was known for his talents as a musician and his love for his daughter. He was the son of former NFL player Tim Sherwin.
On the evening of January 8, 2016, police responded to reports of shots fired at a two-family house on Fourth Avenue in Watervliet around 9 p.m.
Inside, a confrontation had occurred between Brandon Sherwin and his neighbor, Michael J. Fox, 49. The situation evolved into a standoff that lasted for three hours, with Fox barricaded inside his apartment. A tactical team eventually entered the residence and found Sherwin dead inside Fox's apartment. An acquaintance of both men was present at the scene and was intended to be held hostage by Fox, but she managed to flee and contact the police.
An investigation revealed that Sherwin had been shot in the upper torso with a 12-gauge shotgun and then stabbed multiple times with a sharp instrument. Michael J. Fox was arrested at the scene and later charged with second-degree murder, menacing, and criminal possession of a weapon.
In July 2016, Michael J. Fox pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder for attacking a witness, Anna Rozell, who had arrived at his apartment shortly after the murder. That September, he was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. The motive for the killing was not publicly disclosed.
