On February 18, 2022, Shaun T. Koonce, a 41-year-old resident of Poughkeepsie, was fatally shot in Watervliet, NY. The incident occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. when the Watervliet Police Department responded to a shooting complaint at 620 24th Street. Upon arrival, officers found Koonce lying on his back with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the officers and emergency medical personnel, Koonce was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
