On a tragic evening in Saugerties, New York, 24-year-old Amy L. Burger's life was cut short. On May 31, 2016, police responded to a 911 call that had been abandoned. Arriving at an apartment at 26 Randle Court, officers discovered Amy's body on the floor; she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. The residence belonged to her 41-year-old estranged boyfriend, Karon Bowden.
The investigation into Amy's death quickly focused on Bowden, who was present at the scene and taken into custody by the Saugerties Police. It was revealed that the shooting was the culmination of a domestic dispute. Amy had decided to end her relationship with Bowden, which had a history of domestic violence. Bowden was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
In a move to spare Amy's family the emotional toll of a trial, Karon Bowden later pleaded guilty to the charges against him in Ulster County Court.
