Araceles Colon, a 45-year-old female, was found with a fatal gunshot wound to her abdomen on a Thursday night in Macombs Dam Park, near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. She was rushed to Lincoln Hospital but was ultimately pronounced dead.
Initially, her 33-year-old boyfriend, Jonathan Sanchez, painted a harrowing picture for police, claiming that three muggers had attempted to
steal Colon's purse and shot her when he intervened. However, this story soon unraveled under questioning. Sanchez's account of the events changed, and he eventually confessed to being the one who pulled the trigger. The motive for the crime is believed to be jealousy, as Sanchez reportedly thought Colon was seeing another man. The couple had been in a two-year relationship.
