In the late summer of 2017, the life of 19-year-old David Feliciano was tragically cut short in his Mechanicville, New York, home. On August 7th, Feliciano was found in his Grove Street driveway, having been shot multiple times in the torso. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation into his death quickly pointed to a robbery gone wrong, leading authorities to two young men known to Feliciano.
Within days, Nikolai Mavashev, then 19, and
Joseph Broscko, 17, were arrested in connection with the homicide. The subsequent investigation revealed a calculated and premeditated crime. Prosecutors detailed how Mavashev and Broscko had gone to Feliciano's home with the intent to rob him. During the robbery, Mavashev shot Feliciano five times with a. 38 caliber revolver. The motive for the murder was reportedly linked to Mavashev's desire to protect his drug business.
Both Mavashev and Broscko faced charges of second-degree murder. In early 2018, both men pleaded guilty. Broscko's plea included an agreement to cooperate with prosecutors against Mavashev. During sentencing, the court heard emotional victim impact statements from Feliciano's family and his girlfriend, with whom he had been discussing marriage just before his death.
In April 2018, Nikolai Mavashev was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Joseph Broscko received a sentence of 18 years to life. The judge presiding over the case described Mavashev as 'diabolical' for masterminding the killing and condemned Broscko for his coldness in the aftermath of the shooting. The sentencing brought a close to the legal proceedings, but the profound loss of a young man's life continues to be felt by his loved ones and the Mechanicville community.
