W. Eric Simmons, a 30-year-old man from Mechanicville, New York, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Born in Troy on November 16, 1986, he was a long-time resident of the nearby community of Stillwater. He was a graduate of Stillwater High School and had built a career in the automotive industry, working for a decade in various roles. At the time of his passing, he was employed at the parts counter of a NAPA store in Cambridge, New York.
A dedicated and decorated member of the
Boy Scouts of America, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. His commitment to scouting was further demonstrated by his service as a chapter chief and his receipt of the Vigil Honor and the Arrow of Light Award. He was also a member of the Stillwater Rod and Gun Club and was known for his skills as a mechanic and his love for cars. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
On the day of his death, authorities were called to a baseball field in Mechanicville where an injured man was found. The man, later identified as Eric Simmons, was transported to a hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Reports from law enforcement indicated that they were investigating the death as a suicide. He is survived by his wife, his son, his parents, and other family members.
