On a September evening in 2017, the life of 47-year-old Shaun Chadwick was tragically cut short in Monticello, New York. In the vicinity of Holmes Street and Wood Avenue, he was shot multiple times. Despite his severe injuries, Chadwick managed to flee the scene, running to the parking lot of the 'It's a Wash' laundromat on Forestburgh Road before he collapsed.
He was pronounced dead at that location on September 30, 2017.
For nearly two years, the case of Chadwick's death remained a focus for law enforcement. The Monticello Police, in conjunction with the New York State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney's Office, conducted an extensive investigation into the shooting. Their persistent efforts eventually led to a significant breakthrough in the case.
In June of 2020, authorities arrested Naheem Liles, a 22-year-old from Mount Vernon, in connection with the homicide. Investigators alleged that Liles, acting with another individual, was responsible for shooting Chadwick. The motive for the killing was believed to be possibly drug-related.
Following his arrest, Liles was charged with second-degree murder under the theory of felony murder, which pertains to causing a death during the commission of another felony, as well as criminal possession of a weapon. A grand jury later indicted him on these charges. Liles was arraigned and subsequently remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail to await further legal proceedings. The investigation into the death of Shaun Chadwick was reported to be ongoing.
