In the early hours of a Saturday in Medford, New York, the lives of two men were tragically cut short. Just before 1 a.m. on December 23, 2017, 29-year-old Joshua Young of Coram and his friend, Cristino Gomez II, also 29, of Medford, were shot in front of a residence at 3102 Falcon Avenue.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and both men were transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
Despite medical efforts, both Young and Gomez were pronounced dead. In some initial reports, it was stated they were pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Suffolk County medical examiner's office.
The Suffolk County Police Department's Homicide Squad immediately began an investigation into the double homicide. Authorities believe the shooting was a targeted attack. Investigators canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses, but the case proved to be challenging from the outset due to a lack of concrete leads.
In the years that have followed, the case has remained unsolved, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Joshua Young and Cristino Gomez II. Law enforcement has repeatedly appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible. The families of both victims have been left to mourn their profound loss while still awaiting justice for their loved ones.
