In the quiet, early morning hours of May 9, 2019, the tranquility of an Apalachin, New York neighborhood was shattered by violence. Inside his home at 5 Dorothy Road, 32-year-old Brian Argro, a Hispanic male, was shot and killed during a home invasion. When authorities arrived, they found Argro deceased in a front room of the residence. A 20-year-old woman who was also in the house at the time was physically unharmed.
The investigation that followed unraveled a planned attack
orchestrated by a former acquaintance. Jahmier Everett, then 39, of Binghamton, New York, had a history of disputes with Argro and devised a plan to burglarize his home, assault him, and steal from him. To carry out this plan, Everett recruited four men from York, Pennsylvania: Marcus Nolasco, 33, Bernard Turner, 38, Michael McVicker, 49, and Curtis Cuttino, 43.
On the morning of the murder, Nolasco, Turner, McVicker, and Cuttino traveled from Pennsylvania to Binghamton, where they met Everett. Everett then led them to Argro's Apalachin home. Armed with a. 380 pistol supplied by Everett, McVicker and Cuttino entered the house while the other three men waited outside. Inside, they tied up the female witness and assaulted Argro. When Argro resisted, he was shot and killed.
The aftermath of the shooting saw the perpetrators flee. McVicker and Cuttino discovered that the others had left them behind and fled on foot. Cuttino was apprehended a short time later on Route 434, while McVicker was arrested later that morning on a bus near New York City. Everett, Nolasco, and Turner were taken into custody in the following months.
The legal process brought convictions for all five men. Jahmier Everett was found guilty by a jury of Murder in the Second Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, and multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Michael McVicker was also found guilty at trial of Murder in the Second Degree, Burglary in the First Degree, Kidnapping in the Second Degree, and weapon possession charges. Curtis Cuttino pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The multi-state prosecution concluded in March 2022, with all five men heading to prison for their roles in the violent death of Brian Argro.
