Damon Andre Coleman, a 27-year-old male, lost his life in a violent encounter on May 26, 2019, inside a Harlem apartment in New York City. The incident, which also left a 26-year-old woman injured, unfolded in the early morning hours, shattering the peace of the East 102nd Street residence. Coleman, who worked as a teacher's assistant at Harlem's Children's Zone and held a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the College of New Rochelle, was a figure in his community known for his dedication to
helping others.
On that fateful Sunday, at approximately 5:20 a.m., a gunman opened fire within the apartment, striking Coleman in the torso and his female companion in the leg. Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Damon Andre Coleman succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The female victim, however, was listed in stable condition and survived the attack.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an intensive investigation into the tragic event. Law enforcement sources quickly identified a person of interest in the case: the 31-year-old ex-boyfriend of the injured woman. It was reported that this individual was known to both Coleman and the female victim. The suspect allegedly fled the scene after the shooting, heading north on First Avenue. Authorities described him as a Black male who was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. As of the latest available information, it is unclear if an arrest has been made in connection with the murder of Damon Andre Coleman.
