On a winter's night in a Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn apartment, the life of 48-year-old Kenny Mark came to a tragic and violent end. On February 6, 2020, Mark was hosting a house party where several guests were gathered, playing dice around a pool table. Among the attendees were 18-year-old Ahmed Morrison and his friend, Unique Howell. The two men left the party only to return hours later with a sinister motive.
Disguised in ski masks and brandishing firearms, Morrison and Howell forced
their way back into the apartment. They held the partygoers at gunpoint, robbing one person of their wallet and attempting to grab the cash from the pool table. When Kenny Mark, the host of the gathering, fought back against the armed intruders, the situation turned deadly. Morrison fired two shots, striking Mark in the abdomen and the chest. The two assailants then fled the scene, leaving chaos and a mortally wounded man behind. Mark was rushed to NYC Health+Hospital/Kings County, but he succumbed to his injuries and passed away on April 6, 2020.
The escape for Morrison and Howell was short-lived. They fled in a vehicle registered to Morrison's mother, a crucial mistake that would lead investigators directly to them. A few days after the shooting, police located the getaway car and discovered a summons inside bearing Ahmed Morrison's name. This piece of evidence was instrumental in their investigation, and on May 2, 2020, Morrison was arrested. His accomplice, Unique Howell, was also taken into custody.
Both men faced charges of murder, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon. They initially pleaded not guilty. However, as the case proceeded, both men eventually accepted responsibility for their roles in the death of Kenny Mark. In February 2024, Unique Howell pleaded guilty to manslaughter and received a sentence of 17 years in prison. Following his accomplice's plea, on September 24, 2024, Ahmed Morrison also accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 18 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
