In the late hours of a spring evening in Hudson, New York, the life of 18-year-old Terrell J. Starr was cut short. On May 16, 2020, an exchange of gunfire erupted in the parking lot of the Hudson Terrace Apartments, leaving two individuals with bullet wounds. Starr, a recent graduate of Hudson High School from Stottville, was one of them. He was transported in a private vehicle to Columbia Memorial Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The other individual, a 30-year-old man from Albany, was severely injured and airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
Terrell, born in Hudson on November 2, 2001, was a young man with a passion for sports, having been active in both football and baseball, including travel baseball. He had also studied Criminal Justice at Questar and spent his summers working at Kite's Nest in Hudson. His sudden death left his family, including his parents, siblings, and grandparents, to grapple with an immense loss.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Hudson Police Department, with assistance from the New York State Police, launched an investigation into the homicide. Detectives began to piece together the events of that night, interviewing people and collecting evidence from the scene where several vehicles were also struck by bullets. The investigation explored possible connections to other recent incidents in the area, including a drive-by shooting that had occurred earlier that month and a prior arrest of Starr himself in March for allegedly firing a pistol. Authorities indicated that their initial findings suggested that more than just the two men who were shot were involved in the exchange of gunfire. Despite the ongoing investigation, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the death of Terrell Starr.
