On the evening of July 5, 2020, in the Claremont section of the Bronx, a burst of gunfire shattered the summer air, leaving a trail of devastation inside a building on East 171st Street. When the chaos subsided, 26-year-old Eghosa Imafidon, a male, lay mortally wounded. He had been struck multiple times in the neck, head, and arm. Alongside him, 22-year-old Joel Baba had also been fatally shot, while a third man, 29-year-old Mohammed Baba, suffered a gunshot wound to his arm but survived.
The victims were rushed to BronxCare Health System, but for Imafidon and Joel Baba, it was too late; they were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The investigation into the deadly shooting revealed a motive steeped in retaliation. Just hours before the incident, the brother of one of the eventual suspects had been killed. Seeking vengeance, the assailants targeted the three men in a narrow fifth-floor hallway, cornering them before opening fire. The attack was swift and brutal, leaving little chance for escape. Police soon identified two suspects in the double homicide.
In the weeks and months that followed, the New York Police Department made arrests. Kalvin Robinson, then 28, and his co-defendant, Nasir Greene, were taken into custody. The Bronx District Attorney's Office brought a case against them, securing indictments on charges that included murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon. The legal process moved forward, culminating in guilty pleas from both men on charges of first-degree manslaughter.
Ultimately, justice was delivered in a courtroom. Kalvin Robinson was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the killings. His accomplice, Nasir Greene, received a 20-year prison sentence. The sentencing closed a painful chapter for the families of the victims, marking the conclusion of a case born from a cycle of violent retribution that claimed the lives of two young men.
