The investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Jahquay E. Brown of Cohoes just eleven days after the shooting. Brown was taken into custody at his home, where police also recovered a handgun believed to be the weapon used in the crime. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder. Court documents indicated that Brown did not act alone, though he was the only individual formally charged in connection with the shooting.
