In an apartment in Manlius, New York, a tragic event unfolded that cut short two young lives. On April 26, 2021, 25-year-old Oscar D. Sullivan was found deceased from what was later determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The discovery was made after police were called to the residence, where they also found the body of his girlfriend, Leah McIrwin, who was 23 years old.
Subsequent investigation by the Town of Manlius police pieced together the grim timeline of events.
It was concluded that in the early morning hours of April 25th, Sullivan shot and killed McIrwin. Later that same day, he turned the gun on himself, ending his own life. The case was officially ruled a murder-suicide by the authorities. This conclusion meant there were no further suspects to be sought and no arrests to be made in connection with the two deaths. The community was left to mourn the loss of the young couple, with funeral services for Oscar Sullivan being held on May 15th of that year.
