In the early morning hours of a summer day in Harlem, tragedy befell a 31-year-old man from Middletown, New York. Tamel Jackson-Breland, a male, was in front of an apartment building at 230 West 140th St. just before 2:35 a.m. on June 21, 2021, when he was shot multiple times in the back. He was privately transported to Harlem Hospital, just a few blocks from where the shooting occurred.
Despite the swift transport to the medical facility, the wounds proved to be fatal, and
Jackson-Breland was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. Hospital staff promptly notified the 32nd Precinct, initiating an investigation into the homicide. As of the initial reports, the police had not determined a motive for the shooting and did not have a description of the perpetrator.
In the weeks that followed, the New York Police Department continued to investigate the fatal shooting. While no arrests have been made in the case, authorities did release photographs of a person of interest they were seeking to question in connection with the killing. The images appeared to show the individual making a purchase in a convenience store.
