In the late hours of a summer evening in the Bronx, a dispute turned deadly, leaving a 35-year-old man fatally wounded. On August 7, 2021, in the Highbridge section of the borough, Shakeinne Jones was shot multiple times. Police responded to a report of shots fired on Anderson Avenue near West 164th Street around 11:10 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Jones with gunshot wounds to his head and arm.
Emergency medical services transported Jones to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln, where he
was listed in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Shakeinne Jones, a resident of Manhattan, succumbed to his injuries two days later, on August 9, 2021. His death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that Jones had been involved in an altercation with another man prior to the incident. Authorities identified 35-year-old Ishmael Simmons as the suspect in the fatal shooting. It is alleged that Simmons fired a handgun multiple times at Jones following their dispute. The New York Police Department sought the public's help in locating Simmons.
