On what tragically turned out to be his 45th birthday, Ahmad Perkins, a male resident of Red Hook, Brooklyn, was fatally shot in an ambush. The incident occurred in the morning on January 31, 2022, as he was ascending the steps of a multifamily home on Empire Boulevard in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. Perkins was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His BMW SUV was found double-parked and idling nearby, suggesting he may have been expected.
An investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 18-year-old Kendu Skeen from the Wakefield section of the Bronx. Skeen was taken into custody in early April 2022 and subsequently arraigned on multiple felony charges, including murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities noted that Skeen had a prior juvenile record which included charges of menacing and assault related to a robbery.
According to a police source, the motive for the shooting may have been a robbery. It is believed that two individuals, one of whom was identified as Skeen, approached Perkins with the intent to rob him. The situation escalated when they discovered that Perkins was also armed, leading to the fatal shooting. Following his arraignment, Skeen was scheduled to appear in Kings County Criminal Court.
