In a tragic incident on April 15, 2022, Sharell Brown, a 43-year-old male, was shot and killed in Rochester, New York. The violence occurred at a residence on Phelps Avenue, where another individual was also shot and severely injured during what authorities described as a robbery. The surviving victim managed to escape the house and seek help at a nearby store, directing the Rochester Police Department to the location where Brown was discovered.
The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Rochester Police Department, the New York State Division of Parole, and the United States Marshals Violent Felony Fugitive Task Force, quickly identified a suspect. The alleged perpetrator was 39-year-old Jarrelle Williams, who was on parole at the time of the homicide. In an attempt to evade capture, Williams cut off his electronic ankle monitor and fled to Alabama. His flight from justice was short-lived, as he was located and apprehended in Alabama on May 9, 2022, by the New York State Division of Parole and extradited back to New York to face charges for the murder of Sharell Brown.
Following his return to New York, Jarrelle Williams was put on trial. On February 6, 2023, a Monroe County jury found him guilty on all charges, which included two counts of Murder in the 2nd Degree, Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, two counts of Robbery in the 1st Degree, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree. Subsequently, on October 19, 2023, Williams was sentenced to a term of 65 years to life in the New York State Department of Corrections.
