In the spring of 2022, the life of 24-year-old Cyjear Kiron Bruce Betton was tragically cut short in a brazen daylight shooting in Niagara Falls, New York. On May 2nd, Betton was fatally wounded in what authorities would later describe as a 'cold-blooded killing' stemming from a dispute over a 'petty debt.' The incident, which also resulted in the shooting of another individual, unfolded on Pine Avenue, sending shockwaves through the community.

Niagara Falls Police to identify Shaquan Gibson as the primary suspect. Evidence gathered by law enforcement painted a grim picture of the events, suggesting that Gibson had actively 'hunted the victims down' before opening fire with a handgun. This act of violence, carried out in broad daylight, prompted a determined effort by investigators to bring the person responsible to justice.
Following a thorough investigation, Shaquan Gibson, a resident of Niagara Falls, was arrested and charged in connection with the death of Cyjear Betton. In October 2023, a Niagara County jury found the then 49-year-old Gibson guilty of Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. Subsequently, in January 2024, Gibson was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 65 years to life in prison, a sentence that was the result of consecutive terms for the charges against him. County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek handed down the sentence, ensuring that the man responsible for the death of Cyjear Betton would be held accountable for his actions.
