In the early hours of May 5, 2022, the creative energy within a makeshift recording studio in Midtown Manhattan was shattered by deadly violence. Inside the building at 350 West 37th Street, a dispute escalated, resulting in the tragic death of 34-year-old Kamir King. He was discovered on the third floor of an adjacent building at 354 West 37th Street with a fatal gunshot wound to his head.
The violence also claimed the life of another man, 24-year-old Devon Dillahunt, who was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his torso in front of the studio. Emergency services rushed both men to Bellevue Hospital, but their lives could not be saved. A firearm was recovered near Dillahunt's body.
The investigation that followed painted a picture of a planned and violent encounter stemming from an ongoing dispute. Law enforcement officials pieced together the events of that night, leading them to several suspects. The first arrest came on July 11, 2022, when authorities apprehended 24-year-old Kabal Reyes, a resident of Linden, New Jersey. He was taken into custody by the Regional Fugitive Task Force and charged with murder.
The search for others involved in the fatal shooting continued, and on July 25, 2022, a second suspect was arrested. Daniel Williams, 21, also from New Jersey, was taken into custody and similarly charged with murder. The investigation pressed on, leading to a third arrest on July 28, 2022. Justin Rodriguez, an 18-year-old from Staten Island, was apprehended and also faced a murder charge in connection with the double homicide. While the arrests brought a measure of progress in the case, the specifics of the dispute that led to the deadly confrontation in the recording studio have not been publicly detailed.
