Jeffery Mceleveen, a 26-year-old Black/African American man from New Orleans, Louisiana, was killed on February 27, 2017. The incident that led to his death was violent and multifaceted.
On that Monday, Mceleveen was involved in a heated argument with the driver of a vehicle he was a passenger in. The altercation escalated dramatically when the driver pulled over, exited the car, and confronted Mceleveen.
When Mceleveen refused to get out of the vehicle, the driver forcibly removed him and threw him to the ground. The assailant then proceeded to run over Mceleveen's legs with the car. In addition to the brutality of being struck by the vehicle, Mceleveen was also found to have sustained multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his severe injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the course of their investigation, the New Orleans Police Department identified a person of interest in the case. In April 2017, they publicly named Leonard Ward as someone they wished to interview, believing he might have crucial information regarding the homicide. By July of the following year, the investigation had progressed, and authorities issued a warrant for Ward's arrest on a charge of second-degree murder.
